Mace Theft: Investigation May Take 10 Years - Says Nigerian Police


The National Assembly board, investigating  intrusion of the Senate yesterday criticized delay in culmination of police investigations on the issue, over a month after the occurrence.

The joint advisory group of Senate and House co-led by Senator Bala Ibn Na-Allah (APC, Kebbi) and Rep Betty Apiafi (PDP, Rivers) made the position known, when the magistrate of police responsible for IG checking unit, Abu Sani showed up before the board.

Suspected hooligans numbering five had on April 18, this year attacked the Senate and trucked away with the Mace, the image of specialist of the Senate.

Congressperson Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta) declined to talk when he showed up before the board.

Ndume denies coordinating mace carrier

Congressperson Ali Ndume (APC,Borno) yesterday denied the assertion that he ceased the appointee mace carrier from taking the mace from the table when the hooligans struck.

Ndume talked when he showed up before the board, saying he did not have the specialist to do as such. He guaranteed to present an update to the board on the most proficient method to survey the National Assembly security engineering.

"I didn't know in my entire years in this National Assembly that we are that uncovered, for a few people to simply come in and take the mace and flee.

"For me to avert some individual or to encourage some person not to carry out his activity is only thoroughly strange on the grounds that I don't have the specialist. I didn't do that, I can't do that and shouldn't do that," he said.
